What is Velana Chain?
A blockchain is a shared record of transactions, and a place where apps can run. Velana Chain is an experimental, Ethereum-compatible blockchain in The Hub Exchange ecosystem. It was previously called Hub Chain.
Because it runs the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), anything written for Ethereum, from Solidity contracts to wallets like MetaMask, works here with a change of network settings.
1-second blocks
Transactions confirm quickly, which keeps the test loop short.
EVM-compatible
Use Solidity, Foundry, Hardhat, viem and ethers unchanged.
Built for experiments
Free test coins, a token launcher and an explorer.
How it works
When you send VELA or call a contract, your wallet signs a transaction and sends it to the network's JSON-RPC endpoint. The node includes it in the next block, about a second later, and the result is visible in the explorer.
Today one node, run by a single operator, produces every block. That makes the testnet fast and simple, but it is not decentralised: there are no independent validators.
What is VELA?
$VELA VELA is Velana Chain's native coin, with 18 decimals, just as ETH is Ethereum's. Every transaction pays a small gas fee in VELA.
On the testnet, test VELA is handed out free by the faucet and has no monetary value. It cannot be bought, and you should never pay anyone for it. Any wider role for VELA across The Hub Exchange ecosystem is an aim, not a live integration.
Testnet explained
A testnet is a practice network. It behaves like a real blockchain, but its coins are free and worthless, so you can make mistakes without losing money.
Testnet vs mainnet
| Velana Chain Testnet | A typical mainnet | |
|---|---|---|
| Coin value | None. Test VELA is free | Real market value |
| Block producers | One node, one operator | Many independent validators |
| State | May be reset | Permanent |
| Purpose | Learning, testing, prototypes | Production apps and real funds |
Glossary
- Blockchain
- A shared, append-only record of transactions grouped into blocks. Each block references the one before it.
- Block
- A batch of transactions added to the chain. Velana Chain produces a block about every second.
- Chain ID
- A number that identifies a network so wallets sign transactions for the right chain. Velana Chain Testnet uses 484148 (0x76334).
- EVM
- The Ethereum Virtual Machine: the runtime that executes smart contracts. Velana Chain targets the Cancun EVM version.
- Faucet
- A service that gives out free test coins so you can pay for testnet transactions.
- Gas
- The fee for running a transaction or contract call, paid in the network's native coin (VELA).
- JSON-RPC
- The standard request format wallets and tools use to talk to a node. Velana Chain's endpoint is /rpc.
- Mainnet
- A production network where coins can carry real value. Velana Chain does not have a mainnet.
- Smart contract
- A program deployed to the chain that runs exactly as written when called.
- Testnet
- A network for experiments. Its coins are free and have no value, and its state may reset.
- Wallet
- Software that holds your keys and signs transactions, such as MetaMask.
- ERC-20
- The common standard for fungible tokens on EVM chains. The token launcher creates ERC-20 tokens.
Frequently asked questions
Is Velana Chain Ethereum?
No. It is a separate experimental chain that supports the Ethereum Virtual Machine, so you can use familiar languages, tools and wallets. It does not inherit Ethereum's security or validator network.
Is this a mainnet?
No. It is a single-node Anvil developer testnet with one operator, no independent validators and no external audit. It is not production-ready. State may reset and the service may be interrupted.
Does test VELA have value?
No. Test VELA has no monetary value. It comes free from the faucet for testing transactions and contracts only. Do not buy it, sell it or deposit real funds.
What is VELA used for?
VELA is the native gas coin of Velana Chain. On the testnet it pays transaction fees and contract deployment costs. Any wider utility across The Hub Exchange ecosystem is an aim, not a live integration.
I added Hub Chain to MetaMask before. What should I do?
Velana Chain is the new name for the same testnet (chain ID 484148). Remove the old network entry from your wallet and add Velana Chain again so the network name and the VELA symbol display correctly. Your test balances are unaffected.
Can I launch a token here?
Yes. The token launcher creates fixed-supply ERC-20 tokens for experiments. You need a compatible wallet and test VELA for gas. A launch does not create a trading market, exchange listing or liquidity.
What can developers use?
Solidity and EVM tools such as Foundry, Hardhat, viem, ethers and MetaMask. The gateway exposes a limited JSON-RPC interface; archival indexing, WebSocket subscriptions and some advanced methods are not included.
How fast is Velana Chain?
The node produces a block about every second. The network pulse on the home page measures the observed interval from recent block timestamps. That is not a throughput benchmark or a finality guarantee, and no transactions-per-second claim is made.
Is there staking, a bridge or an airdrop?
No. There is no staking, lending, bridge, airdrop or reward programme, and none is promised.
